An Investigation of Cute was painted in regards to a previous painting, Vignette #1: Skies and Eyes. THAT painting has 6 sections and An Investigation of Cute is a larger development of the second section.
In this painting, I wanted to explore the juxtaposition between the grotesque and the cute. As a tentacle laden monster emerges from behind a veil, it sets its multiple eyes on the object of its desire, a rubber duck and the blueprint to build it! What is cute? How does the rubber duck have it? I wanted to give the audience real empathy for the monster; while it may not be that pretty, it too is worthy of love and a place in our world.
An Investigation of Cute is an acrylic on canvas painting, 30" x 9" on a a double thick stretcher frame. It is strung and ready to hang!
